Mercer Island, Wash. (WTNH)- A game that most people played in their elementary school years is now banned for kids in the Mercer Island Washington schools.
Children are being encouraged to join organized sports teams, but tag is being banned from the playground, according to a report on KCPC in Seattle.
Parents complain that they were not informed about the decision by the district and only learned of it from their children. Many are upset about, with one reportedly saying ‘Good grief, our kids need some unstructured playtime’. Another said ‘I played tag, I survived.’
A district official is quoted as saying the move was made to ensure the physical and emotional safety of the students..
